The Council is constituted as follows:

• Five members appointed by the Minister of Higher Education and Training
• Four members elected by the NWU Convocation
• Three members representing donors
• Three community representatives
• Three members elected by the NWU Senate
• Two members of executive management (the Vice-Chancellor and the Vice-Principal)
• Three campus presidents of the Student Representative Council (SRC)
• Two academic staff members not on the Senate
• Two members of the NWU support or administrative staff
• Three members with specific special expertise
