#NWUCares

Students walking on campus. Donations help students to thrive.

For thousands of young South Africans, a university degree is more than a qualification. It's a lifeline out of hardship, a promise kept to families who sacrificed everything, and a first step toward a future once thought out of reach. At the NWU, we believe every student with the will to learn deserves a chance to succeed, no matter their bank balance. Our Development and Fundraising team, together with our generous donors, walks alongside these students. We share in their struggles, celebrate their breakthroughs, and stand firm in breaking the cycle of poverty through education, one life at a time. Our flagship initiative, NWU Giving Week  rallies our community each year in support of the We Care Bursary Fund It provides essential financial assistance to students who would otherwise be unable to complete their studies.

From clearing outstanding debt to easing the burden on middle-income households, this fund keeps deserving students enrolled. It empowers them to advance their education and contribute to innovation and research. As our impact grows, so does our vision for the future.

Key projects now in the pipeline include the NWU Desmond Tutu School of Medicine, training doctors to serve under-resourced communities; the School of Mines and Mining Engineering, building critical skills for one of South Africa's most vital industries; and the development of the Setswana language, preserving an indigenous language of deep cultural and academic importance. Thanks to our donors' unwavering support, NWU continues to launch and sustain projects that drive educational excellence. We are dedicated to the responsible stewardship of every contribution, ensuring each donation makes a meaningful difference.
