Language Awareness Week 2023

language awareness week

This week is about celebrating the linguistic diversity of the North-West University. We will be having a Language Awareness Drive Campaign across all campuses. Each campus will have its own set of activities to celebrate the language development strides at the NWU whilst making everyone aware of the opportunities for multilingual learning. The NWU Language Directorate is making languages strides by leaps and bounds, and we want our students to celebrate with us! This is ultimately about you, the student, bringing your diverse languages and cultures to our doorstep, and we wish to celebrate all of them. Not only that but encourage you to share the warmth and richness of your culture with others, so that we may all learn from each other.

Using multilingual approaches to teaching and learning is the most critical aspect of the NWU language policy. Supporting multilingualism in the classroom can also be a valuable tool that positively affects students' academic performance and social and emotional well-being.

This week will see many exciting celebrations i.e., Cultural Dances, 60 Second Games, Language Portraits, an exciting Booklet Launch, a Colloquium, and an exciting Heritage/Celebration Day.

Keep a lookout for our program on your Campus and join in the festivities!
