Language Awareness Week 2022

Language Awareness Week

This week is about celebrating the linguistic diversity of the North-West University. We will be having a Language Awareness Week Carnival. This will include a Language Awareness Drive Campaigns at all campuses. Each campus will have its own set of activities to celebrate the language development strides at the NWU whilst making everyone aware of the opportunities for multilingual learning.

Using multilingual approaches to teaching and learning is the most critical aspect of the NWU language policy. Supporting multilingualism in the classroom can also be a valuable tool that positively affects students' academic performance and social and emotional well-being.

Our LAW celebration will include the following:

  • Multilingual songs presentations by residences
  • Movie nights
  • Poetry sessions
  • Drama presentations
  • Basic beginner-level language classes
  • Basic beginner-level sign language classes
  • Heritage Day celebration with a cultural food fest

As the proud host for the Language Awareness Week 2022, the Language Directorate is aware that Language and Identity are intertwined. We cordially invite you to join us in celebrating multilingualism at the NWU. There will be prizes to be won in some of these activities.
