South Africa went in a lockdown at midnight on the 26 March 2020 at a lockdown alert level 5 in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. To manage the risk associated with the pandemic and its impact on the livelihoods of South Africans, the government will adjust the levels across the country, based on the level of COVID-19 infections.

To be able to manage the risks inherent in undertaking research during a global pandemic and the various alert levels, it is necessary to be aware of the regulation implications of each alert level, Higher Education guidelines and the implications for researchers.
