Description

The Africa Unit for Transdisciplinary Health Research (AUTHeR) is proud to announce a webinar about Power Calculation and Sample Size Optimization, presented by Prof Cristian Ricci, an experienced biomedical statistician. Prof Cristian shares his expertise on Power Calculation and Sample Size Optimization. This webinar will be beneficial to supervisors, postgraduates, lecturers and researchers.

Abstract

Statistical power presents one of the most critical aspects and is often the weak link in the health research chain. With this two-day webinar, you will turn this weakness into a strength, learning to determine the adequate sample size according to your chosen analytical strategy. Moreover, you will learn how to write the power calculation plan for your research protocol. This webinar will provide a valid toolbox, considering both observational and experimental research. In this webinar, the G*Power was the chosen software for it is freely available, performs numerous types of power calculations, and is continuously updated.

The webinar will be on the following days:

  • Day 1 (6 September 2022):

Morning session: Introduction to the basic concepts of type-II error and standardized effect size.

Afternoon session: Power calculation (priori/posteriori) using G*Power for univariate parametric and non-parametric tests for dependant and non-dependant groups.

  • Day 2 (7 September 2022):

Morning session: Power calculation (priori/posteriori) using G*Power correlation and multivariate generalized linear models, Poisson regression, and survival analysis.

Afternoon session: Protocol writing and real-life examples of power calculation.

Please note: All webinars will begin at 09:00 and end at 15:30.
