The School of Philosophy, Institute for Contemporary Ethics and Focus Area: Sustainability formally invites you to a Talk by Dr. Federica Bocchi from the University of Copenhagen titled "Exploring Philosophy of Science: Contemporary Approaches and Real-World Implications." Traditionally, philosophy of science delves into the fundamental principles, methods, and consequences of scientific inquiry to shed light on the essence and extent of scientific knowledge. However, the landscape of philosophy of science has evolved significantly since the pioneering work of Popper and Kuhn. While their contributions remain pivotal, contemporary philosophy of science now encompasses broader societal concerns beyond the confines of laboratory and field research.
This talk consists of two parts. The first part introduces innovative and compelling directions in contemporary philosophy of science. Highlighting the methodology of philosophy of science in practice (PSP), the history and philosophy of science (HPS) approach, and the literature on values in science.
The second part of the presentation focuses on an emerging area within philosophy of science – environmental philosophy. Philosophers exploring environmental issues from a philosophy of science perspective aim to contribute to public discourse on the nexus of science, policy making, and citizen engagement. Read more
