Description

Are you a masters or doctoral student or postdoctoral researcher in South Africa? Do you want to express yourself and share your thoughts and opinions, but do not have a platform to do so?

If you are passionate about your research and want the opportunity to share this with the public, this workshop is your chance to learn about science communication! SAYAS is proudly representing the voice of young scientists of all spheres of science and we provide the platform for aspiring scientists to talk, debate and learn more about the postgraduate journey in South Africa. Through the years, in the SAYAS blog, SAYA has learned about specific research fields and new discoveries; understood challenges such as finances, funding, diversity and inequalities; were inspired by stories of women in science or other role models; and discovered what the students expect from supervisors and mentors.

Any masters or PhD student or postdoctoral researcher from any research field in South Africa who can communicate in English can participate.

What will the workshop entail?

  • Presentation on Science Communication from the Mail and Guardian
  • Presentations on science blogging and vlogging from our past SAYAS Blogging Team. Opportunity to write up a 750-800 word blog post about your research during the workshop, for submission the next day
  • We will be in touch within 4 weeks of the workshop if your blog post has been approved for publication on the SAYAS Blog
  • Blog posts will be scheduled weekly for the subsequent months. You will be told the date when your post will go live
