Purpose for the conference/workshop
To facilitate dialogue among peers on the listed IK disciplines by properly documenting the norms and standards, knowledge, and experiences from different cultural backgrounds, and ensuring that wisdom keepers who practise the various disciplines contribute to the establishment of a national framework for competency-based recognition.
Objectives
- Document the norms and standards, knowledge, and experiences of the six IK disciplines
- Provide a platform to build cross-cultural networks within the DoC.
- To delineate between different cultural practices related to the disciplines as a means of defining differences and to consider the impact on a national framework for acknowledging wisdom keepers.
- Create a platform for the DoC to identify and expand their strategic and professional network within the respective disciplines
- Facilitate the discourse for an appropriate IK interface with other knowledge system (unpacking appraisals and prospects, including challenges)
Expected Outcomes
- Endorsement of national competency norms and standards framework towards the recognition of the competencies of IK practitioners in the DoC
- Building a social compact with the stakeholders in the DoC in advancing inclusivity, equality, and transformation of the sector.
- IK Disciplines affirmed as important institutions that provides essential service to the society.
