Description

You are cordially invited to a public lecture by Prof. Dr Yannick Griep (Radboud University, Netherlands) as an extra-ordinary professor at the School of Industrial Psychology and Human Resource Management.

Topic: Revolutionising psychological contracts: Temporal dynamics, sustainable practices, and the future of work.

Abstract:

The work of Prof. Dr Yannick Griep aims to advance the understanding of psychological contracts, which are crucial in shaping employee-employer dynamics, by addressing significant gaps in existing literature through an integrated approach. Psychological contracts, the unwritten agreements encompassing mutual expectations and obligations between employees and employers, play a pivotal role in organisational behaviour, management, applied economics, and psychology. In his work, Prof. Dr Griep focuses on exploring the temporal aspects of psychological contracts, developing a dynamic and temporal theory, and addressing contemporary challenges such as precarious work. Specifically, by examining the onset, duration, and patterns of change in perceptions of psychological contract breaches and their reactions, Prof. Dr Griep aims to build a comprehensive temporal framework. This is vital for managing employee relationships effectively and mitigating negative impacts over time. Utilising advanced methodologies like high-density experience sampling and latent class growth curve modelling, Prof. Dr Griep seeks to capture these dynamics accurately and offer new insights into the timing and evolution of psychological contract processes. Integrating subjective perceptions of time with objective measurements, the program aims to construct a robust theory that explains the fluctuations and dynamics of psychological contracts.

This theoretical development addresses the current gap in understanding how psychological contract breaches and their reactions evolve over time, improving the design of longitudinal research and providing more accurate results. Understanding these temporal dynamics is crucial for both academic research and practical applications, guiding organisations in designing better interventions and policies. Additionally, Prof. Dr Griep explores the impact of contemporary employment trends, such as precarious work, on psychological contracts. It introduces the concept of sustainable psychological contracts, emphasising long-term resilience and mutual benefits in employee-employer relationships.. Overall, the work by Prof. Dr Griep offers a comprehensive framework that enhances the study of psychological contracts, providing valuable insights for both academic inquiry and practical application, and helping organisations build stronger, more sustainable, and mutually beneficial relationships with their employees.
