Abstract

What is metaliteracy? What application does it have in today’s information environment? How does the metaliteracy framework influence students' understanding of the learning process?
Why is it important for students to develop a metaliteracy mindset? This lecture will introduce you to the theory of metaliteracy that will inform subsequent lectures and workshops in this series. This first lecture will trace the origins of the metaliteracy framework in relation to changing conceptions of information literacy and revolutionary changes in the social information environment. We will explore the evolution of metaliteracy as a distinct model with core components that include a focus on learning domains, active learner roles, associated characteristics, and reinforcing goals and learning objectives.
