You are cordially invited to WEF In person advanced school for SADC Region

The WEF Nexus in-person Advanced School builds on the understanding of the WEF nexus (gained in the Masterclass) to improve evidence-based decision- making capacities of current masters students, early career researchers (< 5 years post PhD), postgraduates (Master and PhD), managers and practitioners. 

Topics include:

i) achieving simultaneous WEF security,
(ii) sustainable natural resources management,
(iii) socio-economic developments,
(iv) understanding WEF trade-offs and synergies, (v) innovating through the WEF nexus for job and wealth creation, and
(v) linking science to inform policy and decision- making in participants' respective countries. Particular emphasis is set on developing transdisciplinary professional competencies to prepare participants to address complex grand challenges through transformative approaches.

 

Therefore, the advanced school will focus on:
● Improving the ability to conceptualise the WEF Nexus linkages and potential impact on resource management and regional policies.
● Strengthening skills and knowledge, tools and methods for WEF Nexus assessments, planning, monitoring and evaluation.
● Networking and mentoring, i.e., improving international communication between practitioners, postgraduates, early career researchers, senior researchers, and experts to build and consolidate a WEF network in the Southern African region.
Upon completing the in-person Advanced School, participants will be issued Certificates of Completion.

 

WHO SHOULD APPLY
● Early career researchers (< 5 years post PhD),
● Postgraduate students from any discipline working on WEF nexus issues. Preference will be given to PhD and Masters students in their 2nd year of study,
● Managers, practitioners (NGOs, Government, River Basin Organisations), and
● Stakeholders conducting research and development related to the WEF nexus and related fields such as agriculture, forestry, water, energy, engineering, climate change, ecosystems, and the environment.


Applicants must demonstrate an advanced (C1) English level (please see the application form).
