The NWU Faculty of Humanities warmly invite you to submit proposals for the 2025 Teaching and Learning Colloquium.

Theme: Reimagining the Future of Humanities Knowledge and Pedagogy: Decoloniality, Technology and the Social Justice Imperative.

Aligned with North-West University’s commitment to decolonisation, Africanisation, and technological innovation, this colloquium seeks to advance transformative education that centres Afrocentric knowledge systems, equity, and forward-thinking pedagogies.

The event builds on key institutional policies, including:

  • The 2018 Declaration on the Decolonisation of University Education, which calls for the reclamation of African epistemologies in academia.
  • The NWU Technology in Education Policy, which emphasises the role of digital tools in democratising knowledge and addressing historical inequities.

Applicants are encouraged to consider these sub-themes when preparing their submission:

  • Theoretical and epistemological foundations of Decolonisation
  • Curriculum transformation: decolonial frameworks and emergent technologies
  • Indigenous knowledge systems (IKS), epistemic diversity, and the decolonised curriculum
  • Leveraging digital tools and emergent technologies for decolonial and insurgent pedagogies
  • Language and multilingual education
  • Critical multiculturalism, cosmopolitanism, and decolonisation in education
  • Pedagogy and Decolonial Teaching Practices
  • Afrocentric and insurgent pedagogies

Notification of Acceptance: 15 August 2025

Submission of Full papers: 31 August 2025

Colloquium: 9-11 September 2025
