We have all been there: watching the nurse remove the needle from the package, feeling the tap against your skin and closing your eyes hoping it won’t hurt.
For a nursing student, that moment is not just about knowing where to put the needle. It is about having the skills, confidence and care for another person.
That is why our Nursing Facilities on the Mahikeng Campus give students a place to practice before they step into clinics and hospitals. Here, theory comes to life. From their first year, students develop their clinical skills through hands-on practice, using high-fidelity simulators that replicate real-world patient responses.

At our One Button Studio in Vanderbijlpark, you can turn ideas into polished video content. From podcasting and presentations to teaching material and academic or creative content, the studio puts the tools to create, communicate and share within your reach.
With professional audio-visual equipment, lighting, backdrops and simple self-service technology, you can focus less on figuring out the equipment and more on what you want to say. Because sometimes, the idea is already there.

Built to understand a changing world
From shifting landscapes to expanding cities, the world is constantly changing. Understanding these changes starts with having the right tools to analyse them.
At the Vanderbijlpark Campus, our Geography laboratories provide students in the School of Geo- and Spatial Sciences with a dedicated space to work with maps, aerial photographs and satellite imagery, developing the skills to explore geographical information and remote sensing.
From investigating floods and droughts to analysing urban expansion, land use and climate change, these facilities support the learning needed to make sense of the world around us.

Built for the science of aquatic life
Our freshwater ecosystems support life, but understanding the threats they face requires specialised research into the organisms that inhabit them and the environmental stressors they encounter.
Located at our Potchefstroom Campus, the National Aquatic Bioassay Facility (NABF) forms part of North-West University's Water Research Group (WRG) and is regarded as one of the largest zebrafish facilities in the Southern Hemisphere.
Equipped with specialised systems for housing and studying aquatic organisms, the facility enables researchers to investigate the effects of environmental stressors, including metals, pesticides and nanomaterials.
Through aquatic toxicology, nanoecotoxicology and ecological risk assessment, this research helps scientists understand how these stressors affect aquatic life and freshwater ecosystems.
Because protecting our freshwater resources begins with understanding the science behind them.
