Michelle Groenewald

Michelle started her academic career studying actuarial sciences, but soon found a love for development economics. She acknowledges that her field of interest is not without challenges, but feels that this, together with her deep desire to know more, keeps her pushing herself to find new and better ways of doing her job.

Michelle Meixieira Groenewald is an Economics lecturer at the North West University. She was awarded the Chevening Scholarship in 2017 and completed her MSc in Political Economy of Development at the University of London, School of Oriental and African Studies.

She also holds a MCom, BCom (Hons) and BCom degrees in Economics from the North West University. Her research interests include the political economy of development, the critique of economic methodology, and the process of decolonisation relating to curriculum reform.
