Every child deserves a successful future!

For almost four decades, Ikateleng has helped thousands of learners unlock opportunities through education.

Today, those learners are engineers, teachers, doctors, scientists and entrepreneurs.

Learners get access to post-school opportunities, boosting academic performance, building digital and life skills, and support in choosing careers and applying for university studies.

Selection Process

Selection of participants is based on academic performance, targeting those with a 55% average and meeting specific subject requirements. Our teachers are selected for their expertise and passion, ensuring high-quality instruction.

Program Structure

The programme spans 17 Saturdays, divided into two main streams:

Stream 1: Natural Sciences (Mathematics, Physical Sciences, Life Sciences, English)

Stream 2: Economic and Management Sciences (Mathematics, Accounting, Economics/Business Studies, English)

Importantly, learners are provided with transport and catering during contact sessions, ensuring a supportive learning environment.

Impact

Since 1988, the Ikateleng Project has been a visionary initiative of North-West University, tackling the educational challenges faced by secondary school learners in South Africa in science and commerce subjects.

As we celebrate our 38th anniversary in 2026, the project proudly stands as a leading, comprehensive supplementary instruction programme dedicated to empowering learners to achieve academic excellence and prepare for university life.

Today, Ikateleng is a dynamic gateway to post-school opportunities, boosting academic performance, building digital and life skills, and supporting learners in choosing careers and applying for tertiary studies.

Where We Work

There are seven Ikateleng centres located across three provinces. These centres are strategically positioned to serve a wide catchment area of schools:

NWU Vanderbijlpark Campus – learners from Vanderbijlpark and Sebokeng.
NWU Mahikeng Campus – schools from the Mahikeng district (within a 50km radius).
NWU Potchefstroom Campus – Potchefstroom, Klerksdorp and Ventersdorp.
Lichtenburg (NWK) – Bodibe, Itsoseng, Boikhutso, Biesiesvlei, Coligny and Bethel.
Mooinooi – Brits, Bapong, Majakaneng and Segwaelane.
Kimberley – Galeshewe, Tshwaragano and Barkly West.
Rustenburg – schools in the Bojanala district.
