Ikateleng Project
Welcome to the Ikateleng Project
Since 1988, the Ikateleng Project has stood as a visionary initiative by North-West University, tackling the educational challenges in the science and commerce subject streams that secondary school learners in South Africa face. As we celebrate our 36th anniversary in 2024, the project proudly stands as a leading comprehensive supplementary instruction program dedicated to empowering learners to achieve academic excellence and readiness for university life.
Ikateleng is committed to:
- Enhancing learners’ examination results for tertiary education admission.
- Assisting in university applications and preparing learners for university life.
- Empowering learners to qualify for merit bursaries.
- Facilitating the acquisition of lifelong skills for academic and personal success.
Selection Process
Selection of participants is based on academic performance, targeting those with a 55% average and meeting specific subject requirements. Our teachers are selected for their expertise and passion, ensuring high-quality instruction.
Program Structure
The programme spans 17 Saturdays, divided into two main streams:
Stream 1: Natural Sciences (Mathematics, Physical Sciences, Life Sciences, English)
Stream 2: Economic and Management Sciences (Mathematics, Accounting, Economics/Business Studies, English)
Importantly, learners are provided with transport and catering during contact sessions, ensuring a supportive learning environment.
Ikateleng Centres
In 2024, we are welcoming 1 253 learners in grades 10 to 12 at our six centres in Mooinooi, Mahikeng, Potchefstroom, Kimberley, Vanderbijlpark, and Lichtenburg provide a nurturing environment for learners.
