The NWU Research and Innovation for Sustainable Impact warmly extends an invitation to you for the Research Ethics Workshop: Focus on Publication Ethics and Authorship. We welcome Deputy Deans (R&I), Research Directors, Research Chairs, and Academics to participate in this event.

Presenter: Mr. Sidney Engelbrecht (King Abdullah University of Science and Technology).

Learning outcomes:

  • Understand the responsibilities regarding authorship to ensure that contributions are properly and fairly reported.

  • Ability to draw a clear distinction between authorship contribution and acknowledgement.

  • Discover concepts such as ghost authorship, guest authorship, and questionable research practices, which includes salami slicing and others.

  • Engage and discuss guidance on the order of authorship based on scientific disciplines.

  • Understand the basic right of each author to be credited for their work and contribution; and

  • Explore dispute resolution mechanisms.
