Description

You are cordially invited to the NWU Forum 2025, featuring Prof. Ype de Boer as the speaker.

Topic: Philosophical Turning: Cultivating a Peculiar Form of Love.

This talk explores a collaborative project that revisits the Platonic ideal of philosophical love - a love for truth, beauty, and the good - questioning its relevance in today’s post-truth and consumerist era. Engaging in a dialogue between Plato and modern thinkers like Arendt, Foucault, Murdoch, Irigaray, and Badiou, the discussion invites reflection on whether this ancient ideal still holds value or whether philosophy should embrace more practical, grounded approaches.

About the Speaker:

Prof. Ype de Boer is a lecturer in Metaphysics and Philosophical Anthropology at Radboud University Nijmegen. His research focuses on contemporary continental philosophy, ethics, and ontology. He is the author of Agamben’s Ethics of the Happy Life: Beyond Nihilism and Morality (2024) and has published extensively on topics including Japanese fiction, eroticism, and philosophical imagination.
