Description

You are invited to join an online discussion, bringing together some of South Africa’s most respected forensic and investigative journalists. This conversation will explore the essential conditions required for investigative journalism to thrive. Participants will reflect on the legislative and policy frameworks necessary to protect and enable this work, while also examining the practical tools and skills investigators need in an increasingly complex information environment. All those with an interest in media, governance, and public accountability are encouraged to attend.

Topic: Investigative Journalism In Defense Of Democracy.

A key focus of the discussion will be whether universities and other educational institutions should play a more formal role in developing these competencies. Should investigative journalism become a structured discipline within schools of journalism? And how might current practitioners be supported in acquiring advanced investigative skills? This session aims to stimulate thoughtful engagement between professionals, academics, and the broader public on strengthening one of the most vital pillars of democratic accountability.
