Description

With a view to empowering and equipping NWU student leaders with the relevant information and skills, the Student Life Department is hosting a NWU Student Leadership Summit on 3 and 4 October 2025 in the theme of:

Rooted in Resilience: Go Boldly Through Challenges

This theme reflects the belief that effective student leadership begins with a strong, rooted foundation—being ingrained in personal values, integrity, and a clear sense of purpose. When student leaders are firmly grounded, they are better able to withstand the pressures, uncertainties, and complexities of leadership in a rapidly changing higher education environment.

Resilience is more than the ability to “bounce back” from difficulties—it is about bouncing forward. It means adapting, learning, and thriving in the face of challenges. For student leaders, this includes maintaining focus in times of pressure, resolving conflict constructively, and embracing change as an opportunity to innovate and improve.

Go Boldly Through Challenges calls student leaders to step into uncertainty with courage, make difficult decisions when needed, and inspire collective action. It is a mindset of leading with confidence, even in uncharted territory.

By being rooted in resilience and moving boldly through challenges, NWU student leaders will not only serve their peers effectively but also contribute to building a student culture that is inclusive, adaptive, and future-ready—one that reflects the heart and vision of the university.

The purpose of the Summit is to:

  • Share valuable skills and knowledge needed for a successful student leadership term.
  • Outline the NWU objectives and goals for Student Leadership and Governance.
  • Launch the next formal short courses of the NWU Student Leadership Academy.
  • Pave the way forward for student leadership development at the NWU.
