Description

You are cordially invited to a Burnout in Higher Education Workshop by Prof Wilmar Schaufeli.

Understanding, Recognising, and Addressing an Occupational Health Crisis

Universities are increasingly reporting elevated burnout among both academic and support staff, driven by rising workloads, publication and funding pressures, precarious contracts, and blurred work-life boundaries. This session offers a research-based overview of burnout as a distinct occupational syndrome -characterised by exhaustion, mental distancing from one’s work, and impaired emotional and cognitive functioning — rather than a personal weakness or simple stress reaction.

The aim is to equip higher education institutions with a shared, practical understanding of burnout and the tools to address it before it becomes a crisis.
