Description

You are warmly invited to the launch of the book "COMMUNITY PSYCHOLOGY Global Crises, Local Realities, and Action", by Norman Duncan, Vera Roos & Jace Pillay.

Edited by Norman Duncan, Vera Roos, and Jace Pillay, Community Psychology: Global Crises, Local Realities, and Action Global Crises, Local Realities, and Action brings together diverse insights, research, and debates on key theoretical, pedagogical, and action-oriented approaches within community psychology. The volume aims to foster collaboration among students, researchers, activists, and practitioners across borders, in response to growing global interconnectedness.

The book is contextualised against a backdrop of major global disruptions—such as the COVID-19 pandemic, climate-related disasters, and rapid technological change—that shape the wellbeing of communities. It reflects how community psychology is evolving to address emerging themes such as decolonisation, climate justice, and digital activism. Contributors, including the three editors and 23 authors from various social science fields, challenge traditional disciplinary boundaries to offer interdisciplinary perspectives on community issues.

Structured into 17 chapters across four sections, the volume explores the history of community psychology, contemporary challenges (including digital communities, climate emergencies, gendered poverty, and intergenerational dynamics), and practical interventions in teaching, learning, and research. The editors gratefully acknowledge the support of Professor Mirna Nel (North-West University), the School of Human and Community Development (University of the Witwatersrand), and the external reviewers whose feedback enhanced the quality of the volume.
