Message from the Alumni Office

Dear alumni,

The miracle of a second chance

While I am writing this letter, the promise of spring is emerging. It is somewhat warmer now and nature is raising its head again here and there after a bitterly cold winter.

Spring always reminds us of new beginnings… and how wonderful it is to have a second (or third or 50th) chance to do what we need to do.

The NWU is an organisation that strives to create opportunities for people to empower themselves, such as by being vaccinated against the Covid-19 virus. We are proud of the NWU’s leadership in this drive and hope that you share your alma mater’s success in keeping our staff, students and communities as safe as possible.

Grab these chances with both hands

The NWU Alumni Office is also hard at work, creating chances and opportunities in these difficult times.

We have recently been involved in various projects that included visits and donations to non-profit organisations, offering prospective students the chance to win bursaries to the value of R20 000, supporting the marketing of an NWU self-defence project, and many other initiatives. Everybody should have an equal chance in this rapidly changing world.

Talking of chances, our alumni will soon have an opportunity to purchase NWU Alumni brand products online. This is a wonderful chance to literally wear your NWU heart on your sleeve.

Members of the Convocation will also receive a further 15% discount – our effort at rewarding those who have already joined and those who will still join. The Convocation is your voice on the NWU Council and there are representatives there from the ranks of our alumni looking after your interests. For R50, once-off, you receive lifelong membership.

Provide for the next generation

We need you, our alumni, to remain involved with the NWU and help create opportunities for our children and their children to study at a top university.

We also welcomed back our alumni who were at the Olympic Games in Tokyo. They were truly torchbearers in these strange times and we are proud of them all.

You, too, can use your talents and skills to help carry the torch for the future of our students, and of our country, which is already displaying spring blossoms here and there.

Here’s to second chances.

Spring greetings to you all,

Nicolize and team
