Ayanda has scooped various acting roles on television shows such as Rhythm City, The Queen, Scandal and Rockville.

How to survive showbiz

Ayanda has sound advice for those who would like to build a career in showbiz.

“Like any other job, this career has its own challenges – for instance, one day you have a stable job and the next day the show is over and it’s time to move on.

“Patience is very important in the industry and when new challenges emerge, you have to remember why you started this journey.

“There may be fame and fortune along the way, but that shouldn't be your motive, as all of that fades away. Rather stay firm being a person of substance and always know your worth.”

Support from his siblings

Ayanda comes from a big family.  He has five siblings who have been very supportive in his endeavours.

“I really applaud my mother and all the people who have influenced our lives for teaching us humility, kindness and to never look down on anybody.”

He says that family support is vital when you are in showbiz.

“The importance of family is actually everything in the industry. You really need a strong support structure and people in your corner, because in all honesty every day is not the same and every role is also different emotionally, physically and mentally.”

Taking the stage and screen by storm

NWU alumnus Kevin Ayanda Nkosi is a charismatic presence in show business.

Ayanda struts his stuff at the Africa International Fashion Week in Johannesburg.

If the 26-year-old is not acting up a storm on local TV dramas and soapies, he is strutting his stuff on national and international fashion ramps.

Ayanda, who completed a degree in economics and international trade at the Vanderbijlpark Campus in 2018, is the embodiment of young local talent.

His first job after graduating was in the NWU’s sports department as a bodybuilding team manager and gym supervisor. This opened many other doors for him.

Reflecting on his childhood, Ayanda says showbiz and acting had always been in the back of his mind. When it came to fulfilling his dreams, he has not let any grass grow under his feet. He started modelling, which later led to opportunities in acting.

This saw him scooping coveted roles on TV shows including Rhythm City, The Queen, Scandal and Rockville among others.

Pursuing his passion

“Coming from a place where parents pressured you to do what they wanted rather than what you are passionate about, I had no choice but to go to varsity.”

But his student years at the NWU turned out to be a springboard for realising his dreams.

“From the moment I entered the NWU gates back in 2015 as a first-year student, I felt more alive as the love I got from my peers really showed me that I wasn't any ordinary first year,” says Ayanda, who was born in Eswatini and matriculated at Suncrest High School in Vanderbijlpark.

“My time at the NWU was filled with a lot of memories and networking as I am a people's person.”“I found my passion for modelling leading me to enter for extramural activities ranging from the Oryx and Acacia hostels’ Mr and Ms Oracia pageant where I was crowned first prince, to Mr and Miss NWU, where I ended in the top five,” says Ayanda.

This achievement landed him roles as an extra while he was studying at the NWU.

He then scooped bigger acting roles on television, modelling and master of ceremonies gigs. His love for modelling saw him walking on national and international stages, representing big brands like such as David Tlale in the New York Fashion Week and local fashion weeks and earning him the 2019 Top model of the year spot.

Whether modelling or acting, Ayanda seems set to be a bright star in the showbiz sky.
