Going for gold

Alumnus Katlego Maboe has some exciting news to share with us:

“In 2020 I have been blessed with another opportunity to return as the host of Tropika Island of Treasure which will be filmed on the island of Curacao in the Caribbean.

“This is the first time in the show’s nine seasons that a host has been asked to return for a consecutive season.

“I hope you are all tuning in to SABC 3 on Tuesdays at 19:30, with repeats on Saturdays at 20:00, as the new season has already started.

“You are also welcome to follow @mytropika and interact with the show’s content on social media.”

Katlego is going places

Dear fellow alumni,

It is my humble honour to write to you and I pray that this letter finds you all in good spirits, blessed for the year ahead, filled with so much promise.

It seems like a lifetime ago since I last walked the corridors of the Potchefstroom Campus as a student. Oh how I miss those carefree days ...

So much has transpired in ensuing years. There have been many moments to celebrate and even more to learn from, while on the journey of life.

Calling TV broadcasting home

I have been fortunate enough to have sustained a career in television broadcasting for near on a decade and continue to grow in this medium I now call home. I am sure some of you may have seen my very excited face on a few episodes of South Africa’s feel-good breakfast show, Expresso on SABC 3.

Also, perhaps one too many times, you may have had to endure my numerous interviews with some equally excited clients of a certain insurance company while yours truly occupied the passenger seat.

Don't worry, I’ve heard all the jokes and can assure you all that I do have a valid South African driver’s licence and do drive my own car!

Spreading my wings

Meanwhile, I am also reigniting my passion for music which began at a young age and found wings to fly during my time as a student when I joined Flip-a-Coin. (This may still be fresh in the minds of those who were around while we were performing on the auditorium stage on the campus.)

I have managed to secure the services and assistance of well-established professionals in the music industry and now the hard work begins: studio time, writing sessions, rehearsals, refining the final product, etc.

Hopefully, one day we may bump into each other on a stage after a performance. I am equally excited and nervous about the journey into this new world as a solo artist and I am hoping that all will come together harmoniously.

In closing, I hope that you all have an amazing 2020 ahead of you and your loved ones. May all your wildest ambitions and dreams come to fruition, and may the fruits of your labour nurture all who encounter you on their walk of life.

Fondest regards,

Katlego Maboe
