Adding spice to a winning recipe. This is what Nicolize van der Walt, newly appointed section head of the Alumni Office, has in mind.
With over 20 years of experience within the communication, publications and media fields, Nicolize brings with her a wealth of experience.
She says she is here to build on what is clearly already a successful formula for alumni relations, subtly adding flavour rather than trying out a brand-new recipe. In particular, she will strive to uphold the brand and values of the NWU, and contribute to the inclusive sense of belonging for everyone who is an alumnus.
It all started here
It literally all started at the NWU for Nicolize. She obtained a BA Public Management degree and a postgraduate diploma in business management (both cum laude) at the university.
She worked at Media24 as a senior journalist, news editor at the Klerksdorp Record, and editor of the Senwes magazine, Scenario. Prior to her appointment she was the provincial communications manager for a political party.
Born and bred in the province, Nicolize describes herself as a true North West girl – a plain Jane who loves her family, animals, enjoys red wine, is addicted to Coke Zero, and cannot say no to a good movie or book. She is married to Mark, and they have three children, Ilzeanne, Esmari and JP, who is also an NWU alumnus.
She says faith is what brought her to where she is in life and she believes that His grace is enough.
We congratulate Nicolize on her appointment and look forward to the “spice” she will be adding to the already successful Alumni Office.
