During 2017, the editorial team brought you five editions of the NWU & U, keeping you abreast of the latest news about the NWU and its alumni.

In doing so, we did our best to keep up with the latest trends in digital publications – in writing as well as design. Our efforts paid off when the NWU & U took second place in the best digital publication category at the South African Publication Forum’s awards ceremony on 28 September in Johannesburg.

What makes the award extra special is that the NWU & U was competing against the digital publications of big corporates such as MultiChoice South Africa (who came third in this category) and others such as Anglo American, the City of Cape Town, Absa and Sanlam.

An extra feather in the NWU’s cap is that the NWU & U did not play second fiddle to any of their corporate publications, but to the university’s own staff publication, the Eish!, which was crowned the best publication in the digital publications category.

That’s not all. During the recent Marketing, Advancement and Communication in Higher Education (MACE) competition, the NWU & U received a merit certificate, while the staff publication once again did extremely well, being the overall winner of the Media Skills division. In the same competition, the NWU’s annual report for 2015 and the NWU Faculty subdomains website each won a Gold Award of Excellence.

However, in the end it has to be you, our readers, who should be the judge of your alumni publication. Please send us your comments and suggestions to make this publication even bette
