Alumni groupings who wish to donate funds exceeding R20 000 per year for students who fit into specific demographics can now do so. Examples are female students, students enrolled for specific degrees, students living in the alumni’s former residences, and so on.
Sponsorships have made a significant contribution to the future of many of the NWU’s students, enabling them to complete their studies. In some cases where students had outstanding fees, they received their degree certificates after those fees were paid through sponsorships.
Guidelines for sponsorships
Those who would like to make contributions should keep the following in mind:
Prior enquiries by businesses about particular beneficiary groups can be directed to Ronel Vorster (ronel.vorster@nwu.ac.za or 018 299 2046) for undergraduate beneficiaries and to Susan van der Westhuizen (susan.vanderwesthuizen@nwu.ac.za or 018 299 2051) for postgraduate beneficiaries.
The NWU values the support of alumni and ensures that every rand will find a beneficiary.
We have an increasing number of alumni enquiring about sponsorship opportunities for needy and deserving students at the NWU.
Many have grouped themselves into funding consortia around residences, campuses or study groups. The NWU encourages these initiatives and has put practical arrangements in place to make the sponsorship process easier.
Alumni and friends based in the USA can now donate to the NWU through a new affiliation with the King Baudouin Foundation in New York, which enables them to receive the requisite US tax deduction certificates. For more information, please contact Mari Berner at mari.berner@nwu.ac.za or Hannes Malan at hannes.malan@nwu.ac.za. Please encourage your friends and family in the US to support our university.
There are many heart-warming examples of students who excelled and reached the highest echelons of their aspirations through the generosity of sponsors.
