This year approximately 14 000 parents and prospective students have attended the open days on the three campuses of the NWU.

The university has built up a tradition of holding open days every year before 30 June, the official closing date for applications for the following year, says Hannatjie Visagie from Marketing and Student Recruitment.
“On these days prospective students and their parents have an opportunity to visit the faculties of their choice and to be introduced to the programmes and career possibilities in each faculty.”
Hannetjie, who is one of the open day organisers, says people also have the chance to experience the campus ambience and find out more about the residences, sport and student facilities and the various support services.
Prof Fika Janse van Rensburg, the NWU’s vice-principal and deputy vice-chancellor for employment equity and campus operations in Potchefstroom, says the open days give prospective students the opportunity to find out for themselves what certain study fields involve. “It is essential for them to talk to someone face to face about the different academic programmes and what exactly they involve before they make an appropriate choice.”
The open days were held on consecutive weekends during May. The first open day was on the campus in Potchefstroom on 5 May, the second one on the campus in Vanderbijlpark on 12 May, and the third one in Mahikeng on 19 May.
