KINGA'S

quirky side will make you smile

With the third Covid-19 wave upon us, it is not clear when we will get to see each other again. In this second segment of our light-hearted get-to-know-each-other feature, eish! speaks to Kinga Siejek from the Vanderbijlpark Campus.

On most days, Kinga can be found scrolling through Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and blogs. This is her job, not a distraction – she is a digital media marketer in the Marketing and Student Recruitment department.

How long have you been at the NWU?

Technically I have been with the NWU since 2008, when I was studying towards my BA degree in communication. I was lucky to start working for the university a year after obtaining my BAHons in communication in 2012.

Do you have any other qualifications?

I also have a BAHons in history from the university and am currently working towards attaining certificates in social media marketing and brand management from the Digital School of Marketing.

What do you enjoy most about your job?

Being paid to be on social media during the day! And constantly learning something new about the NWU and social media.

Where did you grow up?

I was born in Poland and lived there until I was about two years old. My family and I then moved to South Africa, and have lived in Three Rivers, Vereeniging ever since.

What is your favourite South African dish?

There is stiff competition between droëwors, malva pudding and pumpkin fritters.

What do you love most about South Africa?

Growing up I travelled a lot and got to experience the different cultures and areas of South Africa. I love how beautiful the country is.

Where do you see yourself in the next few years?

I have one of two possible dreams of the future.

The first is moving back to Poland and working as a digital media specialist or a lecturer in history.

The second dream is to move to my brother, Adam, and his little family in Canada and find a Canadian Mountie to marry and live a happy life with.

What do you do in your spare time?

I am naturally an introvert, so my spare time is my alone time. I enjoy a good book and my lockdown hobby has become 5D diamond painting, and baking.

What or who motivates you?

My mom for sure. If there is one person you never mess with, it is a Polish mother. They are headstrong, tell it like it is and work hard for their family and friends. I get my sass, empathy and love for all things geek from my mom for sure.

What do you want to be remembered for?

I guess every person who has ever met me will remember me for something different, and I kind of like that.

Some may remember my many hairstyles and colours, my shrine to all things Star Wars, Star Trek and Marvel that I proudly show off at my desk; others may remember how reliable, hardworking and funny I was, or maybe even a nuisance who apologises too much.
