Bend the twig while you can

As the twig is bent, so is the tree inclined. This saying means that early influences have a permanent effect, and this is exactly what the NWU Alumni Office has in mind with their new Future Alumni Meet Alumni project.

In the past, the Alumni Office reached out to students at the annual final-year student farewell events, just before they leave the university. The new, more comprehensive project engages them earlier in their student life.

“The idea is to start focusing on our current students while they are still actively part of the NWU,” says alumni practitioner Tshepisho Seebela, who is overseeing this project.

The more the merrier

The project will include both students and alumni.

“We will introduce our students to the concept of being alumni and tell them about the activities that they can participate in going forward. They will also meet current alumni who will motivate them to become active and stay in touch with the university,” says Tshepisho.

“We are going to prepare them for future residence reunions, fundraising events, community work and mentorship programmes.”

During the different events, you, as alumni, will have the opportunity to share your work experience, expertise and knowledge with the students. You could also inspire them to become (and stay!) loyal, involved alumni.

Kindly contact Tshepisho at tshepisho.sebeela@nwu.ac.za if you want to be part of this project.
