This is us:
At the NWU, we want to deliver more than average, run-of-the-mill teachers – we want to create exceptional educators.
With this in mind, our Faculty of Education presents three-day excursions with “Super teachers” as the overall theme.
Last year, a total of 2 000 first-year BEd students – contact students from all our campuses and also distance learning students – attended the seven camps held at a youth centre in the Magaliesberg area.
Super teachers in the making
Watch the video to see how our students are motivated to become super teachers who can one day pay it forward by inspiring the youth of our country.
Prof Josef de Beer and Dr Neal Petersen, both from the School for Natural Sciences and Technology for Education, are responsible for these camps, with buy-in from several other colleagues on all three campuses.
“We want our first years to understand the complexity of being a teacher, to start thinking and acting like a teacher and to understand the different roles a teacher plays,” Josef says.
