Dear alumni

As 2020 draws to a close, it is opportune to reflect on where we find ourselves. We have successfully concluded the first semester and the second semester is expected to be concluded by February 2021.

We have had to extend the academic year to early next year because of the effect that Covid-19 has had on our operations. This will not apply to all faculties – some will conclude the academic year in 2020.

We owe a debt of gratitude to the academic and support staff and our students and their parents for the concerted effort to overcome and succeed in the most difficult of circumstances. Thanks especially to you, our alumni, for your continued support of the NWU.

Our results in the first semester in the teaching and learning area have been excellent, demonstrating our capacity to rapidly adjust to the demands of changed circumstances. This does not surprise, because at the NWU we are fully geared to being responsive to changed circumstances.

We, as with other tertiary institutions in the country and across the world, are playing our part to ensure that we are able to contain and limit the effects of the pandemic. From therapeutics and diagnostics to vaccinations and the production of personal protective equipment, we are fully committed to assisting in combating the virus.

My thanks and best wishes to all of you during the festive season.

Please keep safe.
