discover the NWU

This is us:

At the NWU we often say that we care about our stakeholders and imbue everything we do with an ethic of care.

In this video, we put our words into action by giving guidance about how you, our alumni, can take care of your overall wellbeing during these difficult times.

Yes, life is challenging, agrees Genevieve Poodhun from NWU Employee Relations and Wellness, and we can decide if we want to stagnate and give up, or keep on moving forward.

In this video, she talks about occupational and personal wellbeing. One way of looking out for your occupational wellbeing is setting boundaries while working from home, such as by asking your boss to send you emails after hours only when there is a real emergency.

Occupational wellbeing is also about career counselling, finding an expert to teach you the skills you need and seeking professional help if you are struggling.

Your physical wellbeing is also important, says Genevieve. In the video she touches on the value of relaxation and sleep, exercising, activities that bring you joy and maintaining good relationships with the people in your life.

Take care of yourself and keep on moving forward

Watch this video to remind yourself how to take proper care of your personal and professional wellbeing. “Persevere, don’t give up hope,” says NWU Employee Relations and Wellness’s Genevieve Poodhun.

“Make an effort to know yourself, your purpose in life and your guiding principles, and start taking care of your overall wellbeing – this will help you to be more resilient when faced with tough times,” is Genevieve's advice.
