Message from the president

of the NWU Convocation

Dear alumni

It is in times of uncertainty and challenge that one’s character is tested, and the NWU is passing this current character test with flying colours.

What a privilege it is to serve this prestigious institution as an alumnus, and to be part of the events on our campuses.

I would like to invite you to throw your weight behind your alma mater and became fully involved in order for us to move forward unhindered in spite of economic challenges, the pandemic and other obstacles.

Let your vote count

The purpose of the NWU Convocation is to ensure that our alumni have a say on the NWU Council – your inputs can help this institution to reach even greater heights.

As soon as you graduate, you are automatically an alumnus, but joining the NWU Convocation requires a once-off application and payment of R50 for lifelong membership.  With that you gain access to various benefits, the main benefit being that your vote will count when major decisions about the university are taken. Click here for access to the membership application form, which will take you less than three minutes to complete.

With all the changes in technology, the way we communicate and maintain contact with our alumni is also changing – social media are becoming more and more accessible, for example.  You can follow the NWU alumni page on Facebook to find out about the most recent NWU events and interesting developments. We would like to know you better, so please click on the “Like” button.

Keeping you informed

When this letter was written, we were still waiting for the last nominations for the 2021 alumni awards for excellence but there is no doubt that this year’s nominations will again represent the cream of the crop of NWU alumni.

The pandemic makes planning difficult, but as soon as we have more information about the Covid-19 lockdown levels going forward, we will communicate with you about the awards and also about our triennial convocation meeting. In the meantime you can rest assured that the NWU will keep its students, staff and communities as safe as possible.

I would like to encourage you to become involved and help the NWU to continue to grow. Please stay safe during the pandemic, and do not become discouraged.

Regards,

Bert Sorgdrager
President of the NWU Convocation
