Message from the president

of the NWU Convocation

We celebrate our alumni’s successes

Dear alumni

The festive season is around the corner and we all are making preparations for a well-deserved breather. The past two years have not been without their challenges, but the NWU has once again shown it can hold its own among the best, including internationally.

Our students, staff and alumni are in good hands and management deserve a pat on the back for their part in preventing the spread of Covid-19 on our campuses. Safety and health have been prioritised throughout.

When we look back on 2021, we remember our students, staff and alumni who were directly affected by Covid-19. This is a consuming virus that in some cases has ripped lives and families apart. In this time of loss, may each one of you find comfort. May we all continue to do everything in our ability to stay safe.

On a lighter note, we recently honoured our top alumni for their contributions to society. The nomination and selection process was difficult, as the calibre of nominees was so good that any of them could have walked away with the prestigious awards.

We are proud of those who pull their weight in the business world, on the sports field, on the stage, in the classroom, in their communities, in the public sector and in their respective professions. We feel extremely proud when we look at this year’s crop of winners. Every year, we come nearer to our dream and our goal of leaving a distinguished institution for our grandchildren.

This year, we have given a special award to an alumnus who has dedicated his life to the NWU, his profession and his industry. In this edition of the NWU & U, you can read more about this special person to whom age is only a number. Also read about our winners and see how these torchbearers represent the NWU and make us proud.

May 2022 be a prosperous, healthy year. I hope you will spend a happy festive season with your loved ones, and that you will find the time to recharge your batteries.

Regards,
