One of the profile articles in this edition is about alumna Hannatjie Joubert, a gourmet cook and writer of recipe books.
It’s not only in Hannatjie’s kitchen that things are bubbling, sizzling and crackling, however. The NWU’s “kitchen” is also full of activity. The university is implementing a new Statute and adapting its structure accordingly, a new NWU Council chairperson is taking over the reins and our chartered accountancy students are making national headlines.
Our activities are also aimed at benefiting needy students and surrounding communities. The Meal-a-Day project is still filling empty tummies and the Student Rag Community Service (SRCS) recently distributed more than R3,5 million to various individuals, schools, projects and welfare institutions.
Our alumni are also “cooking”. Some had the national Budget on their breakfast menu in Vanderbijlpark, while others feasted on good food, fine wine and hearty company in George. Still waiting on the menu are reunions and gatherings for former De Wilgers residents, distance students and Nelspruit alumni.
You are also welcome to tell us what is “cooking” in your lives – send a letter to nelia.engelbrecht@nwu.ac.za. Or, if you want to take this “cooking” reference literally, the foodies among you may even send us your favourite recipes so that we can all share in your culinary delight.
In the meantime, we trust that you will enjoy the interesting “spread” in this edition of the NWU & U.
Happy reading,
Nelia and the
