Once again, the NWU alumni coordinators have organised a wide variety of events to suit the varied preferences of our alumni.
During the first months of 2017, the alumni officers on the NWU’s campus in Mahikeng were busy with the nominations for the alumni awards, the restructuring of their alumni section on that campus – as part of the bigger NWU restructuring – and moving to new offices.
Then, on 25 April, they hosted a reunion for their alumni who studied transport economics. An upcoming event is the establishment of a brand-new alumni chapter in Bloemfontein on 2 June. Look out for articles and photographs of these events in future editions of the NWU & U.
A feast fit for a king
On 30 March 2017, the Protea Hotel King George in the coastal city of George was the scene of a celebration for alumni of the NWU’s campus in Potchefstroom.
Prof Fika Janse van Rensburg, the acting campus rector, addressed the approximately 60 alumni, parents and current students in George. Here he is with Abigail Leshope from the NWU alumni office and alumnus Cyril Scholtz.
Alumni officers responsible for this campus are planning the following events for the near future:
Contact Abigail Leshope at 018 285 2669 or abigail.leshope@nwu.ac.za for more information about these events.
As reported elsewhere in this edition, the alumni of the NWU’s campus in Vanderbiljpark attended a breakfast meeting earlier this year where the national Budget was discussed.
This campus also said goodbye to alumni coordinator Alwine Naudé, who is retiring after 10 years of service at the NWU, and welcomed Zanele Ngobese who took over the reins from Alwine on 2 May.
On 12 May, alumni Charles Matubule and Vincent Kheswa hosted a workshop on CV writing and job interviews. This was an alumni initiative to empower young graduates to enter the workplace with confidence.
