Supporting and inspiring students and lecturers alike, the staff from the Centre for Teaching and Learning (CTL) are the vital cogs that keep the wheels in the classroom turning.

“Our ultimate goal is to inspire academic staff to enhance their teaching and learning skills and to provide academic support to students on their path to academic success,” says chief director Prof Willie van Vollenhoven.

Focusing on strategy and the operational plans and budget, he manages and coordinate all functions at CTL.

After last year’s organisational restructuring and the realignment of activities, CTL is now more focused on faculty support and professional development, and has less of a campus/silo mindset, says Willie.

The centre’s three directorates focus on teaching and learning support, centralised functions and specialised projects and research respectively.

Four domain coordinators ensure that the core business of CTL remains on the cutting edge and coordinate their work across the three directorates.
