current upgrade nears completion

The Ferdinand Postma Library on the campus in Potchefstroom is in the second phase of an extensive refurbishing project.

The library is currently being upgraded and spaces repurposed as part of its commitment to meet the changing needs of all library users.

The two-phase project started in September last year with the second floor, which was completed in December. Louise Vos, manager for outreach, projects and quality, says the main added feature on this floor is a new, quiet study area with more power points and seating capacity for 232 users at the southern side of the library.

An upgraded air conditioning system, new carpets and leno wood flooring add to the warm, inviting ambience of the library.

The second phase, which involves revamping the first floor of the library, is currently underway and is expected to be completed in April.

Disruptions kept to the minimum

The library’s dedicated team of staff has worked tirelessly to come up with solutions to ensure that any upgrading-related disruptions are minimised and alternatives are available to ensure lecturers and students have access to essential sources and services.
