The future of teaching and learning

Martin believes academics must play a key role in the new teaching and learning strategy that Council approved last year.

“We have to be sensitive towards the development needs of our students. We have to commit ourselves to creating a dynamic learning environment in which students can prosper and develop the qualities we want from them, and that will allow them to succeed in their future careers.”

This means developing students to be ethical leaders with a constant thirst for knowledge who take responsibility for how they learn.

“The most successful lecturers will be those who are able to be creative and resourceful when engaging with students. They have to teach students how to critically evaluate and systematise information from various sources and apply it in an effective way so that it can help to find solutions to the complex problems of society.”
