It was a day of fun, creativity and laughter for the staff of the Unit for Open Distance Learning (UODL) in Potchefstroom when the unit, in collaboration with NWU Wellness4U, hosted a special day to cater for the health and social needs of staff.
The wellness day took place on 19 November last year. Staff were grouped into 10 teams who each had to represent a specific theme and make food to complement their chosen theme.
External judges crowned the Voortrekkers team as the overall winner based on their excellent food, creativity, team spirit and costumes.
It wasn’t just fun and games, though. The importance of staff members’ health was a major topic for the day. Bestmed offered free health tests and Spec Savers gave eye tests. 4DHealth provided expert medical aid advice.
Prof Manie Spamer, director of UODL, says the day was all about looking after the wellness of staff. It was also a great opportunity to build team spirit.
“NWU Wellness4U plans many similar activities for 2016,” says Bonita Maboeta, manager of Wellness at the Institutional Office.
