Meet our researchers: Dr Annemarie Wentzel

The Faculty of Health Sciences is doing exciting work on the research front. We introduce Dr Annemarie Wentzel, a researcher and senior lecturer in neurophysiology.

Dr Wentzel is part of the Hypertension in Africa Research Team (HART), and is also linked to the South African Medical Research Council Extramural Unit on Cardiometabolic Disease.

Her research looks at how the brain, heart and endocrine system work together on a biochemical, cellular, neurovascular and systemic level.

Why neurocardiology and cardiometabolic stress reactivity? Well, because we live in a day and age in which we are constantly required to adapt to all kinds of stressors and challenges, and it is important to understand the physiology behind stress responses.
