Acting president of the NWU Convocation
Nkosinathi Tom
Dear alumni and members of the NWU Convocation
As we approach the end of 2024, I extend warm greetings and good wishes to you and your loved ones.
As members of the NWU Convocation already know, after the resignation of Bert Sorgdrager as president, the Executive Committee of the Convocation (ExCo) decided that I, as current deputy-president of the Convocation, should act as president until our triennial meeting in 2025. I look forward to serving you in this capacity.
This year has been a time of growth, engagement and collective progress within the NWU community.
Our ExCo had the honour of working alongside the three campus alumni committees, the Corporate Relations and Marketing team and the broader alumni community, as part of our commitment to strengthen our ties as alumni and support our university’s continued success.
Through a number of engagements and activities, we reached some significant milestones, including the NWU’s 20th anniversary, and participated in a large number of alumni and convocation engagements.
Looking ahead, I am excited about opportunities for deeper engagement such as our triennial Convocation meeting scheduled for next year, and we hope to see you in numbers. This is but one of the platforms that allows us to reconnect, share insights and contribute to the NWU’s future and the achievement of its strategic goals.
I encourage you to actively participate in our initiatives and support alumni-led projects. If you are not yet a member of the NWU Convocation, I urge you to take a moment to join us by visiting our website and completing the quick and easy application form. This can be done in less than five minutes. Your involvement as a Convocation member will make a meaningful difference to the future of our university.
Thank you for your continued engagement, which is important to fostering the NWU’s mission of academic excellence and societal impact.
Wishing you and your loved ones a joyous festive season and a prosperous start to the new year.
Yours sincerely
Nkosinathi Tom
