Message from the vice-chancellor
Dear alumni
This is the final edition for 2024 of our alumni magazine, the NWU & U, and it is a privilege to share some of the highlights of the year with you.
We have been celebrating our 20th anniversary and all the milestones reached along the way since 2004 – many of which you witnessed or were part of when you were studying at the NWU. Looking back, I am proud of the university’s accomplishments and hope you share my sentiments.
Some exciting new initiatives will be unfolding. Our plans to establish the NWU Medical School are progressing well, and I believe that once the school opens its doors, it will have a meaningful impact on the health sector in our province and the country.
The NWU Council also approved the establishment of a task team on the proposed NWU School of Mines and Mining Engineering, as the university has the skills and expertise to develop and enhance this sector for the benefit of society.
This year we officially launched NWU Enterprises (Pty) Ltd, with the aim of delivering impactful, commercially focused research, consulting and commercial services and spinoff companies. We are very excited to see what the future holds for our very own company.
We have also intensified our focus on internationalisation, which is one of our strategic priorities. In this regard, we had numerous successful international engagements during the year, and will continue to expand the NWU brand.
Thank you to our alumni for being part of the success of this university. Your interest and continued support are what make it possible for the NWU to initiate new ventures and explore hidden potential. What will the next 20 years hold? With alumni such as you the answer is simple: greatness.
I thank you.
