The NWU has embarked upon a process to find a new unitary symbol in the form of a sculpture and we need you, our valued alumni, to be part of this process and share in the excitement of creating it.
Once we have the final concept of the sculpture, replicas of it will be placed on each of our campuses. We need all of our stakeholders’ views and inputs to accomplish this.
With your contribution and imagination, we can discover something unique; something special and true to the goals, strategy, principles and values of the NWU.
How to enter your idea
After putting on your thinking caps and getting those creative juices flowing, click here to upload your idea by following the different prompts. This will include asking you to upload a design and a two-page explanation of your concept.
All design concepts have to showcase the NWU strategy, values and dream. When you upload your design idea, please ensure that it shows a representation of the design/proposal and its proportions, as well as full-colour sketches or computer-generated ideas.

The next step:
how the panel will
choose an artist
The panel will evaluate each artist’s proposal or design based on the following criteria as demonstrated in the proposals submitted: artist’s rationale and explanation of the proposed design and how it incorporates and represents the NWU values and strategy, overall aesthetic look of the proposal, and feasibility of the design to be erected at prominent places on the three campuses.
This artist will then create the same sculpture on all three NWU campuses.
How the rest of the process will work
After 15 October, an NWU panel will consider all the ideas they have received and choose the best one.
The panel’s next task will be to ask for proposals from artists who can create the selected sculpture. After considering the artists’ proposals, they will identify finalists from whom the final artist will be chosen.
