Keeping our students safe

One of the topics Prof Daryl Balia discussed was how the university, in collaboration with the municipality in Potchefstroom, has started a non-profit organisation to ensure the safety of students in the Bult area just outside the campus.

Alumni enjoy a splash of orange in Nelspruit

In the heart of Mpumalanga, where orange is the colour of beautiful sunsets and ripe subtropical fruit, it is quite fitting that our alumni gathered at the Orange restaurant in Nelspruit.

At this event on 9 May 2019, alumni practitioner Abigail Leshope welcomed the 21 alumni, after which Prof Daryl Balia, the deputy vice-chancellor for campus operations in Potchefstroom, brought them up to speed with everything new and exciting happening at the NWU.

Then Abigail let the cat out of the bag: Daryl was celebrating his birthday that day. This inspired a few alumni to sing him a birthday song that was unique to their hostel when they were students.

The evening continued on the same cheerful note, with the older alumni enjoying the company of the younger ones – some of whom graduated as recently as last year.
