During the Over-de-Voor reunion held from 24 to 26 March, Dr Pieter Warnich, a former housemaster, introduced the book he had written on the history, traditions and stories of this residence. Overs would like to thank all alumni who contributed to the book, for instance by sharing anecdotes or sending photographs. For more information about the book, contact Janice Möller at janice.möller@nwu.ac.za or 018 299 1176.

Overs celebrates
55 years of ups and downs

With the first 55 years behind them, the men of the Over de Voor residence on the NWU’s campus in Potchefstroom are ready for the next 55 years.

Former residents or “old boys” came from all over the country and beyond to mark their milestone anniversary from 24 to 26 March 2017. Muis Grobler (resident 1972–1974), for example, came all the way from Oshakati in Namibia.

On the Friday afternoon and in the evening, the Overs clan socialised and swapped stories and then tackled Laureus men’s residence on the rugby field.

Saturday morning was all about history. Dr Pieter Warnich, a former housemaster, introduced the book he had written on the history, traditions and stories of Over de Voor. Next was a visit to the NWU’s archive and museum, and after that a formal dinner where former houseparents were spoiled.

Prof Fika Janse van Rensburg talked to the alumni on Sunday morning, and Janice “Mother” Möller, the residence officer at Overs, unveiled the 55-year commemorative plaque.

Then, after an unforgettable weekend full of fun and lovely memories, the alumni returned home.
