Aldus hopes to get more AEDs installed across the campuses. The biggest challenge is funding the devices. This can be very costly.


“The last two devices were funded through the efforts of Dr Corrie Rheeder at Student Life and Greg Roberts at Residence and Catering Services. I believe their drive towards the development of the NWU and care towards students and staff is evident in their commitment to this initiative. I hope many more entities will follow suit and get AEDs installed in their workplaces.”


He says all trained first aid officials should know how to use an AED as it forms part of their level 1 qualification. The NWU Emergency Services team also have advanced training in using AEDs as it forms part of a Basic Life Support Qualification.

Anyone willing to procure these life-saving devices for their building or unit may phone Aldus Smith at 018 299 2286 for assistance. First aid training can be booked through the online training booking portal at the Advanced Life Support Training Centre.
