Let’s find out what they have to say.
How students experience online learning

1. How would you describe your general experience of online learning during the lockdown?
Online learning is not hard, but I still find it difficult to get used to. Sometimes it leaves me frustrated because I miss the contact sessions with my lecturers, especially when I am uncertain about work or need additional resources to get the work done. One aspect I worry about a lot is the practical work that needs to be done.
2. What is your biggest challenge with online learning?
My biggest challenge is not being able to send my work through on time because of electricity issues at home. My laptop’s battery also barely lasts more than 20 minutes at a time, making it difficult to type essays and assignments.
3. What do you enjoy the most about studying from home?
Honestly? There is nothing I enjoy about studying at home.

1. How would you describe your general experience of online learning during the lockdown?
It is fine. I find it very time efficient.
2. What is your biggest challenge with online learning?
Sometimes lecturers only add assignments a week in advance and as a result we have to submit more than one assignment on the same day. Also, I sometimes struggle because our resources are limited and lecturers cannot upload extra documents.
3. What do you enjoy the most about studying from home?
Being at home! Working in my own time and not worrying about attending classes. I can also, in some instances, work ahead and do not have to wait for confirmation from lecturers.

1. How would you describe your general experience of online learning during the lockdown?
The lecturers are giving us a lot of work with tight due dates, so time is a challenge. You literally end up not having enough time to study, because of mental and physical exhaustion.
2. What is your biggest challenge with online learning?
It clashes with my family responsibilities. I don't get enough rest and at times I can't keep up with the due dates because of mental exhaustion.
3. What do you enjoy the most about studying from home?
I feel at peace away from the noise of students surrounding me. I can now think with a clear mind and enjoy the opportunity to grow individually. I also don’t miss the group work. Although it may ease the workload, it robs us of the opportunity to overcome difficulties and think for ourselves.

1. How would you describe your general experience of online learning during the lockdown?
I was a bit unsure in the beginning. Having been used to contact sessions, I wondered whether I would have the same understanding of concepts and I worried about submitting assessments, since this will all be done virtually. But now that sufficient time has passed, my uncertainties have subsided. With the data the university bought for us, I have been able to keep up with my course work schedule and submit assessments on time.
2. What is your biggest challenge with online learning?
I have not had challenges as I have had access to data (provided by the university) and a device which allowed me to keep up to date with announcements on study notes and assessments.
3. What do you enjoy the most about studying from home?
Most definitely it’s not having to wake up and leave my home to attend lectures. I am able to study, submit assessments, all while still warmly wrapped in my pyjamas.
1. How would you describe your general experience of online learning during the lockdown?
There are lots of pros and cons. It has had its fair share of challenges, but it's not the worst experience. In general, I actually quite enjoy it!
2. What is your biggest challenge with online learning?
At first I experienced lots of frustration and uncertainty because I did not how I'll finish my semester. The uncertainty made the online learning experience very unpleasant and added a lot more stress. Keeping motivated and driven to work hard seemed impossible most days. Along the way I made the mind shift not to view this as a challenge, but as an opportunity. Therefore, I can now say I don't have any big challenges – just opportunities pushing me out of my comfort zone to face every obstacle with a positive mindset.
3. What do you enjoy the most about studying from home?
Winter has officially arrived, so not having to get out of bed early in the morning to go to class is definitely something every student enjoys. I also like working at my own pace, and determining my own work schedule that fits my daily obligations. I have more time to prepare properly for my tests and assignments, which was definitely a personal struggle I faced before online learning.

1. How would you describe your general experience of online learning during the lockdown?
It took time for me to get accustomed to online learning. While preparing for class, listening passively to the lecturer and taking notes are expected in contact sessions, online learning demands springing into action. But, no matter how challenging it has been, I had to accept the new circumstances with an open mind and do what needs to be done to pass my modules.
2. What is your biggest challenge with online learning?
My biggest challenges have been time management and data expenses. Since online learning requires a lot of intensive research, I needed data to access other educational platforms to do research for my assignments. Time management has also been difficult. I have to find a balance between doing my chores at home, spending time with my family, studying and completing my assignments.
3. What do you enjoy the most about studying from home?
What I enjoy most is the flexibility. Online learning allows me to set my own pace in what I'm learning. I also enjoy how convenient online learning is – I can keep on learning as long as I have a device with me.
